A Friend like You

I sure don’t deserve a Friend like you
You know the shameful things I do
You know the unlovely side of me
And yet you love me completely
I am so amazed and humbled too
For I do not deserve a Friend like you

I don’t deserve a Friend so dear
You who are always compassion and care
Me, a stumbling, fumbling fool
Breaking every golden rule
Yet still you remain tender-hearted and true
I sure don’t deserve a Friend like you

I don’t deserve a Friend so great
Giving, giving whilst I take
Loving, loving without end
Such a precious lovely Friend
Lord, there’s nothing I can do
To deserve a Friend like You

What a Friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer
Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.
