No Other Gods......

Ah, yes indeed you must worship
And you will
But, come and I will show you
What lies beyond this hill
If you work another hour
And you buy another field
You will increase your power
By the wealth that it will yield
Yes, He is good but look o’er yonder
‘Better’ lies in wait for you
Why do you yet stand here and ponder
When there is so much to do
Eat, drink and be merry longer
Time enough for bowing then
I can make you bigger, stronger
I make fools of mighty men
But still you crave my subtle offerings
As I watch you bow before
The worthless idols you are serving
And the gods that you adore……..

For we do not have a high priest
who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses,
but we have one who has been tempted in every way,
just as we are—yet he did not sin. Heb.4:15

His Promises....

Some laugh and scoff, some mock and jeer
The warning Voice they boldly spurn
In ignorance they scoff and sneer
‘This One who said He will return
Where is He now, this Holy God?
Has He forgotten what He said’?
And carelessly some choose to trod
Beneath their feet His sacred Head

Some choose to stop the Voice within
Loudly declaring unbelief
Deceived, they choose the road of sin
A one way path to endless grief
And some will testify and swear
There is no living God above
They have ears but cannot hear
The Voice of everlasting love

Some stood beneath the blood-stained tree
Mocking and challenging the Son
They cried, ‘If you are really He
Then save yourself and come on down’
With heavy rocks they sealed the tomb
Satisfied that hate had won
But earth could never hold the Groom
The great I AM, God’s only Son

Some turn to look at Calvary
And see their sad and hopeless fate
They see His love so full and free
Pouring on the hands of hate
Before His tender love they fall
Repenting, crying ‘I believe’
And He hears their earnest call
As full redemption they receive

For every knee will someday bow
And every tongue will then confess
He has declared it to be so
And He keeps all his promises
‘Behold, I’m coming soon,’ He said
‘And My reward will be with Me
I’ll judge the living and the dead
And then….and then…eternity’

First of all you must understand
In the last days scoffers will come…..2 Pet.3:3

The Lord is not slow in keeping His promises
As some understand slowness.
He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish,
But everyone to come to repentance. 2 Pet.3:9

I tell you the truth,
Anyone who will not receive
the kingdom of God like
a little child
shall never enter it. Luke 18:17

New Outfit

Do you like my new out-fit?
You say it’s quite nice?
Thank-you, glad you like it
It was a very good price
Well to tell you the truth
It was actually free
I’m really quite blessed
To have it given to me

It’s become quite popular
This latest trend
One size fits all
Would you like one, my friend?
The brand –name is Christian
But not Dior
You say this is interesting
I’ll tell you more

It can be quite comfortable
This trendy design
I’ve become quite relaxed
In this new out-fit of mine
I can stretch it or tease it
To suit my style
Or simply accessorize
And then I just smile

Yes, Christian is becoming
A popular brand
You don’t have to sign up
Or raise your hand
You really can wear it
However you please……
All you have to do
Is say you believe

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees,
You hypocrites. You clean the out-side of the cup and dish
But inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Matt.23:25

…and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.
Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of
most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. Matt.24:11-13

….having a form of godliness but denying its power.
From such, turn away. 2Tim.3:5

On the Surface

On the surface we toss flowers
Rivers flow, calm and serene
We smile and say ‘how are you’
Rain falls down, the grass is green
On the surface we paint pictures
Keep the thorns and weeds at bay
On the surface, what a cover
For the truth that’s tucked away

On the surface we’re ‘nice people’
On the surface, thin disguise
Not a flicker or a ripple
In our painted mask of lies
On the surface, lazy rivers
But beneath its currents pull
On the surface drifting flowers
But there’s One who knows in full

On the surface, flawless image
On the surface, silence cries
But there’s One above all others
Who sees through each vain disguise
On the surface, calm and lucid
Leaves drift on its tempered flow
Yet One sees beneath the surface
Watching every under-tow
