It Sure Is Nice

When life’s winds are cold and chilling
And our dreams are washed to sea
When the flowers in the garden
Drop their blooms in misery
When the laughing brooks of summer
Swirl in dark muddy revenge
There’s one thing for which I’m thankful
It sure is nice to have a friend

Many willing hands are reaching
As we dance upon the green
With the sun-kissed daisies smiling
Or the moon-lights silver sheen
But as the bank of dark clouds roll
And our laughter comes to end
I’m glad I have a hand to hold
It sure is nice to have a friend

It sure is nice to have a friend
Whose love, though oft unspoken
Remains because you understand
The value of its token
Lord, bless the true and faithful one
The shoulder in the wind
It sure is nice to love someone
It sure is nice to have a friend

Heaven's Violin

In Heaven I’m not sure what I’ll do
While God greets the other guests
I’ll wander the streets of golden hue
In perfect pastures I’ll rest
And as I pause on the heavenly shore
Where crystal waters flow
I’ll praise my King forevermore
And there’s one thing I know……

There’ll be violins in Heaven
Sweet music they will play
Trickles of perfection
In a holy serenade
The angels in countless number
Will drink the music in
As we pause in wordless wonder
At heaven’s violin

Its melody soothes the traveler
Here on our weary way
It sets our feet a-dancing
And turns our night to day
Its soft strain melts our troubles
If just for a little while
And when I get to Heaven
I know that I will smile…..

‘Cause there’ll be violins in Heaven
They might be made of gold
And as we view the beauty
That has never yet been told
Over the hills and valleys
A serenade begins
And feet will start a-dancing
To Heaven’s violin

Oh, what a celebration
Some sweet day it will be
As every tribe and nation
Unites in victory
And as we join in chorus
I’ll wear a mile-wide grin
As we hear what God saved for us…..

August Fields

To August fields my dreams return
For just a little while
And for its dusty warmth I yearn
And for its sultry smile
The laughing breeze that stirs the sheaves
And ruffles fern and flower
Taunts the summer heart that grieves
For August’s pleasant hour

I long to roam the haunts again
Of butterfly and daisy
Dancing to the locusts strain
Where noon is warm and lazy
No more the effervescent sheen
Its skies are dusty blue
I revel in the golden-green
Of August’s misty hue

The subtle hint of summer’s fading
Whispers at my door
In spite of my utmost persuading
Its stealth I can’t ignore
And now across the frozen field
I view its snowy plain
Visualizing 'neath its shield
Sweet August fields again

Yep! SOMEWHERE beneath the snow
I know its warmth remains
I'll dance the hazy girth I know
of August fields again.....
But now instead of locust tunes
A snow-plows vulgar sound.......
Time flies, so I know that soon
August will come around!

Let It Rain

Drooping flowers raise their heads
Waters fill parched river-beds
Dusty fields are green again
And I’m learning how
To dance in the rain

Clouds are groaning over-head
As they release the tears they shed
Take heart, their weeping’s not in vain
As I’m learning how
To dance in the rain

Toss your umbrella, lift up your face
Drink in the nectar of heaven’s embrace
Yes, pain still hurts and wishes remain
But I’m learning how
To dance in the rain

Tilt your head, look to the skies
Look deep into God’s tender eyes
You’re not alone, He holds your hand
And He’ll teach us how
To dance in the rain

Seems like God designed us to learn
more in the ‘rainy seasons’
than in the sunshine……thus producing growth!

He will be like rain falling on the mown field,
Like showers watering the earth…..Ps.72:6

There's Always an After

After the laughter
After the tears
After the heartbreak
After the fears
After the dancing
After the fun
After the sorrow
And after the sun

After the passion
After the night
After the reckoning
After the fight
After the anger
After the pain
After the triumph
After the rain

There’s always an ‘after’
The moment you’re in
Whether it’s laughter
Or a punch on the chin
Til’ we reach the thresh-hold
Beyond death’s dark sea
Where there is no
After eternity

Who Will Share the Tears?

It’s easy to share my laughter and smiles
And sunshine as it lingers awhile
To brighten up a weary mile
And fill my heart with cheer
And many gladly join my side
As we enjoy life’s pleasant ride
But oh, what do we really hide
And who will share the tears?

Many dance out in the sun
In pleasant fields we laugh and run
It’s so easy to have fun
When summer time is here
But as a chill wind starts to blow
And clouds obscure the sun’s warm glow
I wish somehow that I could know
Why many disappear

The dancing and the song is done
The laughter and the mirth is gone
And suddenly we’re all alone
Without a comrade near
Ah, there is One who will abide
He will never leave our side
In Him we may each care confide
And He will see each tear

Was anybody there with Him
As crucifixion’s eve grew dim
To wipe His tears and comfort Him
In Gethsemane?
In agony He wept and cried
No human friend there at his side
We slept…He died
‘Tis He who comforts me

Then He said to them,
“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow
To the point of death,
Stay here and keep watch with me.”
…..then He returned to His disciples
and found them sleeping. Matt.26:38-40

Sometimes I Stumble

Sometimes I am dancing,
Fleet-footed and strong
Sometimes I am flying
On the wings of a song
Sometimes like gold pennies
My blessings rain down
As I close my eyes
And twirl round and round
But the Lord has His way
Of keeping me humble
Lest I forget him
Sometimes I stumble

And instead of dancing
I fall to the ground
I strain to hear music
But there is no sound
My golden shower
Is a cold, bleak rain
As I close my eyes
And I cry out in pain
The Lord has His way
I will not grumble
At my side He will stay
For sometimes I stumble
