Slow-burning Memory

Slow-burning memory
Flickering in the wind
Burning through the pages
To a chapter in my mind
I’ve got no desire
To snuff out its flame
For here in its fire
I still see your name

Slow burning memory
Carry me away
Warm me with the kiss
Of a sweet yesterday
Just like a swallow
Of love’s finest wine
This slow-burning memory
Lingers in my mind

Slow-burning memory
Smoldering ember
Love’s tender offering
As I remember
Slow-burning memory
Bitter-sweet pain
Here in its flicker
I see you again

I Need You

I need You, Lord, I need You
The battle is too hard
It seems I’m growing weaker
And Lord, I’m getting tired
Lift me on Your shoulder
Temptations fire is wild
Hold me like a father
Would hold his hurting child

I need You, Lord I need You
Each step of the way
I need You to hold on to
Without You I would stray
Only You can keep me
From sinking in the mire
I need You, Lord I need You
Oh, hold me through the fire

I need You, oh, I need You
To be My Strength and Stay
Your arm around my shoulder
To lead me all the way
Hold me, hold me closer
So I won’t slip and fall
I need You Lord I need You
To be my all in all

Someone Prayed for Me

God bless the one who prayed for me
Without, I think that I would fail
Down upon a faithful knee
Someone prayed and You prevailed
Prayer, like stairways to Your arms
When my cares would bring me low
When this old world with paltry charms
Vainly seeks to tempt me so

God, bless the one who is praying
For soldiers armed to fight
And for the lost souls straying
In the cold, dark night
Oh, I could never do it
On my wee strength alone
But prayer will walk me through it
When I think that I’m alone

God, bless the one who is praying for me
And I’ll pray for him in return
Oh, what a comfort when I cannot see
I still feel Your Presence burn
Do not call me selfish, proud or vain
In this, my one desire
That one would pray for me again
To fight temptations fire

Then, hand in hand and prayer by prayer
Your army will unite
And as we climb this golden stair
Someday we’ll win the fight
Then I will lift Your banner, Lord
To sing with all the free
I’ll celebrate the great reward
With those who prayed for me

God You are Awesome

God You are awesome
God You are grand
Becoming a ransom
For sinful man
Opening Your storehouse
Of mercy and love
You constantly shower us
With gifts from above

Open my eyes Lord
So others may see
The beauty of Your word
Reflected in me
Fill me with Your passion
And Your Holy fire
To walk in Your fashion
Being my one desire

God You are awesome
May all of my praise
Be for Your ransom
All of my days
Surely goodness and mercy
Shall follow me
Til my battle disperses
In victory

Love Hurts

Love is patient, love is kind
Love to others is not blind
Love puts others, not self first
And love’s not love until it hurts

Love is pleasure, love is pain
Love’s a treasure in the rain
Love is not a sweet dessert
Oh love’s not love until it hurts

Love is smiling through our tears
Love is trusting through our fears
Hidden blooms beneath life’s dirt
Love’s not love until it hurts

Love is not fleeting attraction
It’s a thought lived out in action
Pick yourself up from the dirt
Cause it’s not love until it hurts

Holding close and letting go
It’s a constant ebb and flow
Raging fire to quench my thirst
Loving, loving ‘til it hurts

High up on a lonely hill
Crying Father not my will
Putting every sinner first
Loving, loving ‘til it hurt

Authenticity 07/21/09

I s His love within me real
Or just something that I feel?
A sweet and stirring emotion
Is He my inner Source
My single driving force
My Captain on life’s vast ocean?

Does His great love inspire
A holy heavenly fire
Smoldering within my breast?
Or is it something nice
That I recall once or twice
Before I lay down to rest?

Does His love make me weep?
Probing into the deep
As I think of His life-blood pouring
Or is it just a thing
I occasionally bring
In some tender moment before Him?

Does His love in me complete
Every pulse and each heart-beat
And every breath that I inhale?
Is my love genuine?
Am I a branch on His vine?
If He tried it, would I fail?
