No Other Gods......

Ah, yes indeed you must worship
And you will
But, come and I will show you
What lies beyond this hill
If you work another hour
And you buy another field
You will increase your power
By the wealth that it will yield
Yes, He is good but look o’er yonder
‘Better’ lies in wait for you
Why do you yet stand here and ponder
When there is so much to do
Eat, drink and be merry longer
Time enough for bowing then
I can make you bigger, stronger
I make fools of mighty men
But still you crave my subtle offerings
As I watch you bow before
The worthless idols you are serving
And the gods that you adore……..

Janet~

For we do not have a high priest
who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses,
but we have one who has been tempted in every way,
just as we are—yet he did not sin. Heb.4:15

Tekel.....

If God withdrew from our hands
Our longings and our passions
And laid them out across the sands
In true and honest fashion
If He revealed without disguise
Our innermost desires
And spread them out across the skies
To test them with His fires
If every hour of yesterday
Were painted like a story
And set up high in bold display
Where would lie the glory?
If He then asked ‘who is our God’
Would we reply with pleasure?
‘You, God, you’re the only One’
Would it belie our treasure?

Janet~

Thou shalt have no other gods before Me. Ex.20:3

No Third Reward

We must choose whom we will serve
We all will hear two voices
But there will not be a third
Option in our choices
For every man upon this earth
Must decide alone
Who will be the god he serves
Until this life is done

Either we will choose the god
Of hatred, greed and lust
His kingdom one of temporal sod
His greatest boast is dust
And when we close our eyes in death
How cold that death will be
There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth
For all eternity

Or we may choose the God of love
The One who gave for us
His greatest gift from up above
Hope through His son, Jesus
Though we may suffer here below
For one whom we call Lord
Tis but a little while we know
Before heaven’s reward

We must choose whom we will serve
For this life’s little span
We all are servants on this earth
Of either God or man
We cannot be servant of two
There is no ‘middle lord’
Heaven or hell when life is through
There is no third reward

Janet~

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you,
Then choose for yourself this day whom you will serve………
……..as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15

No servant can serve two masters.
Either he will hate the one and love the other
Or he will be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and Money.
The Pharisees, who loved money heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.
He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men,
But God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God’s sight. Luke 16:13-15

This is not a harsh and unfair situation God has placed us in.
He knows since Eden we all are born in sin
And thus He had a greater plan
He sent His Son to dwell with man
And be tempted in every way as we are
But He also provided a Way of escape. He is Lord.
He is a Father of tender compassion
He sacrificed his Son for every nation
Upon a cruel and rugged tree
Hope was born at Calvary
and all who call upon His name
Will be saved from the wrath to come!!!!
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile.
....the same Lord is Lord of all
and richly blesses all who call on Him,
for "Everyone who call on the name of the Lord will be saved" Romans 10: 11-13 or Joel 2:32

For I Am God.......

Nation will rise against nation
Mightiest kingdoms will fall
This is My declaration
For they do not heed My call
The strongest men will crumble
Returning to ashes and dust
Yet My grace is poured out to the humble
And to all who obey and trust

Who else can be likened to Me?
Who can make anything grow?
Can gods formed by hands of a goldsmith
Wash sinners whiter than snow?
Why do you fall to worship
The idols for which you slave?
Or pray to gods of wood and stone
Who have no power to save?

Fear not, My little children
For all that must come to pass
As surely as it is written
These days shall whither as grass
Has ever a God besides me
Profited any man?
The idol formed from the strengthened tree
Is the tree nourished by My hand

For I am God; there’s no other
There is none like me
I am the God of ancient times
And of days that yet will be
Hear ye, oh stubborn nations
What the God of Israel has said,
‘He frustrates the liars tokens
And drives the diviners mad’

I am the Lord, there is none else
There is no god besides me
I form the light and the darkness
Instruct the wind and the sea
My hand stretches over the heavens
What I purpose will be done
For I am the God of Israel
Besides Me there is none

Janet~

Isaiah Ch. 44-46

Remember the former things of old:
For I am God,
There is none else;
I am God.
There is none like Me. Isa.46:9

I bring near My righteousness;
It shall not be far off and
My salvation shall not tarry:
I will place salvation in Zion
for Israel my glory. Isa.46:13

This Is Our God.....

He sits enthroned above the earth
Holds in His palm this drop of dirt
He stretches out from sea to sea
The heavens like a canopy
He brings the stars out one by one
And knows not one of them is gone
Lift up your eyes from fields of sod
Look to the skies, THIS IS OUR GOD

He tends His flock, we are His lambs
Tender shepherd, great I Am
He gathers us into His arms
Close to His heart; He leads the young
Who can measure His great hand?
Who His mind, can understand?
Who can hone His chastening rod?
There is none; THIS IS OUR GOD

The gods of earth are formed by man
Gold on gold or silver chain
Carved of wood that will not rot
Idol yes, but God, they’re not
Have you not heard or understood?
A God cannot be made of wood
While unbelievers scorn and laugh
His breath sweeps them away like chaff….

To whom then, can he be compared?
Can anybody teach the Lord?
Who taught Him to understand?
Who can rule above His hand?
He, who brings princes to naught
Can He by anyone be taught?
This world’s kings reign over sod
He is Supreme; THIS IS OUR GOD

Do you not know? Have you not heard?
He is the everlasting Lord
He is the God of all creation
He is the God of our salvation
We cannot fathom or understand
This God of no beginning or end
He exceeds all realm of thought
Look up and see, THIS IS OUR GOD

I Want to Know Him....

I want to know Him
That tiny baby
Born in Bethlehem
In humility
The King of heaven
Gracing earth
In the form
Of human birth
Oh, I want to know Him

I want to know Him
The One who walked
‘mongst sick and poor
He healed and taught
Creator of
The universe
Freeing us
From evil’s curse
Oh, I want to know Him

I want to know Him
He who died
A perfect Lamb
Was crucified
So sinful man
Within His blood
May become
The sons of God
Oh, I want to know Him

I heard a soft Voice
In the twilight dim
He said, come to Me
Come to Bethlehem
Kneel at the manger
Bow at the cross
I am no stranger
I am God
And you may know Him…..

You have my Word
Faithful and true
Timeless message
Given for You
You have My word
Given to men
So all who have heard
May come to know Him….

Do You Know Him?

He is the Lover of my soul
In life and death He’s in control
His love and mercy has no end
He is an everlasting Friend
He is my strong-hold; He helps me stand
He is my Rock; He is my right hand
He is my Shield, my Fortress, Stay
More precious than gold, unfailing always
Do you know him? He who will bless
The seekers of His righteousness

He is my Shepherd; I am His sheep
He is my Comforter when I weep
He is the Vine; He is Salvation
The Beginning, the End, the God of Creation
From everlasting to everlasting
The Living Bread within my fasting
He is the Way, the Truth, the Life
He is Hope within my strife
He is a Father, kind and tender
Do you know Him?
My soul’s defender

He is my Deliverer; He is my King
He is my boasting; He is my Wing
He is my Refuge, my Strength, my Song
My help in trouble, my Corner-stone
He is Holy, He is Judge
And His decree will never budge
He is the Lion and the Lamb
Alpha, Omega, the great I AM
He is Thunder, He is a dove
Do you know this God of Love?

He is my Defense, He is my Light
He is Day within my night
He is my Healer; He is Grace
He is the Reaper we all will face
He is Humility, Glory and Power
He is undefeated in His darkest hour
Conqueror, Victor, He is Head
Of both the living and the dead
He is the bright and Morning Star
Do you know Him? This dear Savior

Do you know the One who died?
The One with pierc-ed hands and side
Do you know the One who bore
The whole world’s sins whilst He wore
Upon His brow a thorny crown
As crimson love and tears flowed down?
Do you know the One who cried
“It is finished” as He died
To set the captive sinner free
And give us life abundantly?

Do you know Him? This Holy One
Jesus Christ, God’s precious Son
Do you know this Friend of sinners
Who transforms losers into winners?
Do you know this God of love?
He’s down below, He’s up above
He holds the world within His hand
Do you know His love so grand?
Do you know Him in all you do?
I dearly hope so, for He knows you

Without God............

All for naught, all for naught
Every little thing I’ve got
Every hill that I will climb
Every ticking mark of Time
Every step that I have trod
All for nothing
Without God

All for naught, all for naught
Every little dream I sought
Every goal I’ve conquered then
Every plaudit gained by men
Every footprint on earth’s sod
All for nothing
Without God

All for naught, all for naught
Every sacrifice I’ve brought
Given; not in humble love
But my selfish worth to prove
Oh, how useless mortal laud
All for nothing
Without God

Without God, without God
Every breath is all for naught
Every venture and acclaim
Simply titles to my shame
What a sad and empty lot
If I live it
Without God

No Other God......

The news with all its doom and gloom
Might cause our hearts to fear
For all across this sad old world
We know the end is near
As evil walks with evil
In an army cold with sin
Their captain is the devil
And they think that they will win

But the God who stood with David
To bring the giant down
Is the same God we serve today
He can’t be over thrown
He sealed the mouths of lions
Stood with Daniel in that den
And in the fiery furnace
No flame could scorch those men

Though man may boast of lesser gods
And claim a greater plan
No other God can live within
The hearts of fallen man
No other God can render peace
As hatred’s surges roll
Or bid the wind and waves to cease
Or save a sinful soul

And the God who created the heavens and earth
Abides with us alway
The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
Is still the same today
No other god can go before
Or ever take His place
No other God holds our reward
Or saves us by His grace

Be Still and Know

Be still and know that I am God,
I plan the pathway that you trod,
I paint the trees that mark the trails
Where fleet deer rests and coyote wails,
I touch the clouds with coral hues
And brush with gold the clear, clear blues,
Then as the night-shades softly fall
I wrap you with a starry shawl

Be still and know that I am God
I plan the pathway that you trod,
I guide the laughing brooks that play
Beneath the weeping willows sway,
I watch the minnows as they race
Within its bubbling, trickling pace,
I ruffle all the fern and flowers
Gracing shores and leafy bowers

Be still and know that I am God,
I plan the pathway that you trod,
I plan the hills and valleys too,
And promise that I’ll see you through
The winds that taunt the shifting sail,
The whispering breeze, the strongest gale,
The storms that toss you where you stand,
I hold them all within My hand

Be still and know that I am God,
I plan the pathway that you trod,
I plan the beauty and the pain,
The bright sunshine and driving rain,
Without life’s hills you would not see
The blessing I have planned for thee
So as with faith this path you trod,
Be still and know that I AM GOD

Somewhere.....

Somewhere in the muted folds
Before the breath of pinks and golds
Breaks the sacred solemn hush
Endowed by midnights velvet brush
Somewhere among the charcoal plumes
And all the grey and silver blooms
Which boast their colors but by day
And hide by night in shades of grey
Ah, somewhere there beneath the pines
Sheltered by the whispering vines
And serenaded from the sky
By winsome breezes lullaby....
Somewhere among forgotten hills
Where a wisp of moon-light spills
A silver pool upon the grass
As the untallied minutes pass
Ah, somewhere there I wish to be
With God, in wordless poetry.

God, You're Amazing

It’s such a fine evening, think I’ll tarry awhile
In the calm soft alluring of Heavens smile
The stars seem suspended on invisible thread
Dazzling diamonds on a blue velvet bed
Sweet distraction from life’s constant flurry
Here on the doorstep I’ll leave all my worry
As I think of the One who holds stars in their place
I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve doubted His grace

God, You’re amazing, Your wonders so grand
Why do I doubt the work of Your Hand?
In my little window, still I can see
God, you’re amazing, you love even me

The sun, moon and stars obey Your command
You cradle the universe in Your hand
And here I sit, a creation of dust
Doubting somehow that You’re way is just
Ashamed I confess, Lord, forgive my sin
Then in Your perfect love You forgive me again
Though my sins are as countless as the stars in the sky
Your mercy is boundless, its well never dry

God, You’re amazing, your love is so fair
There’s nothing at all to which it can compare
I sit on the doorstep of my sin and pride
Oh Holy Father, it was for this You died

It’s such a fine evening, think I’ll tarry awhile
To drink in the wonder that I am Your child
I am the child of a heavenly Father
Though stubborn and sinful, my Lord still You gather
Me into Your arms, whisper Your love to me
More vast than the star-studded midnight sea
You brush my cheek with the winds tender kiss
And I realize only You could love me like this

God, You’re amazing, oh what a Friend
In spite of my failures, Your love does not end
When I cannot see, Lord help me to trust
God, You’re amazing, Your way is just

It truly is a SPECTACULAR evening....
the crowning touch to a gorgeous 'Indian summer' day!!!!
The stars look as if God simply lowered them a little tonight,
the moon is a perfect crescent, and the evening air has just
enough 'nip' in it to make it truly intoxicating!!!
God, You're amazing! Sometimes I feel like David
as he exclaimed, "When I consider the Heavens..
the work of Your fingers, the moon and stars
which You have set in place,
What is man that You are mindful of Him? Ps.8:3-4
I know I've used this verse often but it is a favorite!!!

Autumn Good-bye (or,Life from my Leaf Pillow)

Good-bye autumn, you’re a treasure
Wrapped in nature’s finest shades
Good-bye autumn, sun-kissed pleasure
Wanderlust that’s heaven-made
Dusty, warm, mellow seduction
Capturing the staunchest heart
What a splendid introduction
To the Master of His art

Good-bye autumn, rosy apples
Orchard, vineyard, sweetest yield
Good-bye gardens, sun-beam dappled
Good-bye harvest from each field
Good-bye oranges, reds and amber
Glowing hills of golden-rod
Still I linger in your chamber
Midst this handiwork from God

Good-bye from my leafy pillow
Musty, sweet, the scents of earth
Neath the arms of birch and willow
I thank God for autumn’s birth
Good-bye hues of flaming hill-side
Lingering on the slumbering sod
As your glory fills the night skies
Seems I see the smile of God

A leaf pile......compels kids
of all ages to JUMP IN!!!
We had a great day,
snow is gone and we could
finish things like leaf-raking,
'fertilizing' the garden:):)
and simply relaxing on our giant leaf pile.
Then God drew the evening curtain
with a glorious sun-set!!! One we all appreciate
since at our house, this is the only time of year
it sets early enough so that we are able to see it.
I simply needed to capture this day in verse...
...and pictures. There is something 'achingly' beautiful
in earth's surrender!Enjoy this 'stroll'

Point of View

I don’t suppose that in this life
We’ll ever understand
The great design or reasoning
Beneath God’s mighty hand
I don’t suppose anyone knows
Why some are called to bear
A cross that seems too great for them
Perhaps a bit unfair

I don’t suppose it’s given to men
To understand God’s thoughts
Or even begin to fathom
All the miracles He’s wrought
The glass we view our trials through
Is dark and stained with sin
But some glad day He’ll take away
Our darkened veil within

I don’t suppose we’ll ever see
Until we stand with Him
Where Heaven is reality
And earth a shadow dim
Then, over there if we still care
Perhaps we’ll ask Him why
But then again one glimpse of Him
May truly satisfy

Searching

In money, yes money, some try to find it
In greed, endless greed, how sadly they're blinded
In liquor, yes liquor, insatiable thirst
They drink til enslaved to a bondage so cursed
In playing, in pleasure, in wanton desire
Constantly feeding an unquenchable fire
For nothing endures, nothing faithful will prove
And nothing is sure except God's wondrous love

In working, yes working that surely appeases
Twenty-four seven yet still nothing pleases
That large gaping void that just keeps on expanding
Searching for joy while they lack understanding
As they search in their folly for true satisfaction
How futile their effort, how vain every action
If they are not grounded in hope from above
If they have not found it in God's perfect love

Oh, there is a solace calm, undemanding
A peace that surpasses this worlds understanding
It's not found in riches, in fortune or fame
It's found in forgiveness through His holy Name
It's found in redemption beneath a red cross
It's found in confession counting this world as loss
It's found in believing in God up above
It's found in receiving God's free saving love

"For I know the plans I have for you"
declares the Lord,"Plans to prosper you
and not to harm you. Plans to give you
hope and a future. Then you will call upon me
and come and pray to me and I will listen to you.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me
with all your heart...... Jer.29:11-13

Ok, ok, it's confession time...
I like rolling pins!
and I like going on a search to
find one that's unique and different.
And yes, it gives me a momentary delight
to find one.....but that's it!
Brief, brief pleasure, for 'things'
will never fulfill or satisfy!
At the end of the day it is simply 'more stuff'.
Only One can satisfy and then, only if we let Him.
'if we seek Him with all our hearts'.

Thanksgiving Muse

Dear Lord, I would like to thank-You today
Not simply because it is Thanksgiving Day
But because of Your great love to me
And the gifts You pour out so abundantly……
A son who hugs me out of the blue
And says ‘just want you to know I love you’
Or tonight as he came bounding down the stairs
With happy grin and tousled hair
He throws his arms around me again
Saying ‘thanks Mom, you made my room so clean!’
Oh, how lucky can one mom be?
He noticed AND he hugged me…..
Or a blue-eyed, blonde-haired little girl
Always beside me ready to curl
Into the crook of my arm, should I sit
On the couch perhaps to rest a bit
‘I like snuggling’ she sez, ‘cause you’re so warm
And she wiggles closer into my arms
And as I tuck her in each night
More warm hugs so very tight
Two teen-age daughters who ask, ‘are you ok?’
If I’m having a quiet, thoughtful day
They tell me in their own teen-age style
That they appreciate me once in a while
And they tell me by the things they do
That they also love Jesus too
I thank-you Lord, for both of them
So very different, yet quite the same
And Lord, I know they’re watching me
Help me be who I should be
And last but not least, the crowning touch
A husband and dad who loves us so much
Living a life of sacrifice
Giving gladly, paying the price
Of love in such an unselfish way
Working so hard every day
Missing us so when he is gone
Loving us so when he is home
Lord, I simply want to say
Thank-you, cause I think every day
Is Thanksgiving Day

If we would try to count EVERY little blessing
we have, from the moment we open our eyes....
yes! eyes that open!!! thank-you Lord, and hands
that move,,,,etc. I do believe we would be
a more thankful people!
We have a neighbor who suffered an injury
resulting in paralysis from his neck down!!!
How quickly it makes us aware of things we take
SO FORGRANTED!!!!,,like being able to
hug back when someone hugs you!!!!
Teach us Lord, as humble servants
To serve you with thankful hearts so fervant.

He is God

My God is the God of my present,
And He is the God of my past,
He is the God of my future,
Of my first day and my last,
He is the God of my hill-top
The God of my valley low,
He is my God when I’m running
Or when my feet are slow,
He is the God of my sunshine,
He is the God of my rain,
He is the God of my laughter,
And He is the God of my pain,
He is the God of my riches
And He is the God if my loss,
He is my God as I’m marching
Or staggering ‘neath my cross,
God is the God of all ages,
He has no beginning, nor end,
My God loves me forever,
My God, my Lord, my Friend

Someday, My Son

My son will be a man someday,
It’s hard to believe as I watch him play,
But if he is blessed with ‘three-score and ten’
Then soon, too soon he must stand among men,
Oh my dear boy, what kind of man will you be?
Will you be a follower or will you take the lead?
Will you drift along or do all you can?
Someday, my son when you’re a man

One day you will run a little too fast
And you’ll look back to see that your childhood has passed,
As you realize this my son, what then?
Will you be glad to take your place among men?
And when you do, my dear little lad,
Will you stand tall or hang your head?
Will you look to God and seek his plan?
Someday my son, when you’re a man

Will you love the Lord; believe his truth?
Remember the Creator of your youth,
Will you talk to Him often throughout your day?
Will you read His word; will you kneel and pray?
Will you endeavor to run this race?
And fight the good fight ‘til you see His face?
Will He be your Guide, your trusted Friend?
Someday my son, when you’re a man

Do you dream, my precious son
Of whom you’ll be when you are grown?
What will you do; will you have a wife?
Are these your manly dreams of life?
Or do you hope someday to be
A man who follows where God leads?
Then start today son, while you can,
For someday soon you’ll be a man

Your Word

Your Word to teach, Your Word to reach
The lost ones all around us
Your Word to guide, Your Word inside
Your power when you found us
Your Word, a lamp unto my feet
A light unto my pathway
A precious roadmap ‘til we meet
Upon that sinless highway
Your Word a sword, can’t be ignored
Or what a day of reckoning
Your Word unchanged it will remain
In spite of foolish beckoning
Your Word is truth, wisdom for youth
And for man of all ages
It can’t be changed or re-arranged
Upon these holy pages
Your word is just, in it we trust
Oh, what a priceless treasure
Your Word is sound, a solid ground
For right and wrong to measure
Your Word is love and up above
You wait with tender yearning
‘Til all have heard Your precious Word
And long for your returning
Your Word is peace and it won’t cease
Faithful through the ages
Oh, my dear Lord, I love Your Word
And listen through Your pages

I'd Rather Dance

I prefer the memory of the dance
To never dancing at all
I would rather take a chance
Than never fly or fall
And if the petals on my rose
Lie dormant now in rest
Its scent still lingers in my nose
It’s sweetness in my breast

Is life an open window
Through which my heart may fly
Or do I cower in shadows
Where I’ll never see the sky?
Is fear a heavy fetter?
Mistrust a ball and chain?
Ah, life can be much better
Dancing …never mind the pain

I’d rather dance while it’s summer time
For winter comes too soon
But my God is the God of winter-time
My midnight and my noon
So I’d rather trust and take a chance
Than never fly at all
For God is with me in each dance
To catch me if I fall
