The Betrayal

The birds in the trees are silent,
The flowers close their eyes,
The trees bend low in sorrow
As they hear their Master's cries
The moon in the sky is darkened,
The wind has ceased to blow,
For here within the garden
All nature seems to know....as it cries

Daily You walked in our splendor,
Daily we hailed You as King!
Our Master, our Creator,
Maker of everything,
Lord of all creation,
Let nothing halt our song,
But now we bow in sorrow
For our Maker's hour is come,
Yes, our Maker's hour is come.

The disciples lay a-sleeping,
Subdued in slumbers bliss,
No silent tears or weeping
In this prelude to The Kiss,
Then lo, what breaks the silence?
What is this doleful beat?
A song of doom and violence
Shod upon their feet!

Jesus speaks, "Arise, arise,
Behold, he is at hand!
The one who will betray me
Before us now doth stand!"
Judas cries ,"Hail Master!"
And kisses the Son of Man,
Then Jesus turns to Judas,
And Jesus calls him "Friend." As He says

"Daily I sat in your temple,
Daily you heard my words,
And yet you bring an army
To betray the Lord of lords?
Daily you heard my teaching,
Do you not know who I am?
And yet you bring your swords and knives
With which to slay a Lamb?
.........and yet you bring your swords and knives
To betray the Son of Man!"

The Maestro

It’s one a.m.
He's all alone.
After the orchestra,
And the symphony
Are gone
There is
Silence.
He played her heart
Like a violin
Or a cello
But broke a string.
And the music died
But nobody cried
Because nobody knew
That even a maestro
Needs to be loved
By more than
A song or two

Now it’s one a.m
He's all alone.
He could have had
Beethoven,
Mozart,
Bach,
And fine wine.
But he chose
A silent carousel
Of memories
And pink kool-aid.

A Lifetime Ago

It feels like a lifetime ago
That day
Beneath the azure glow
Of May
When we talked
About little nothings
But the little nothings
Really were something
Because I miss them
We were together
Then
Wide open summer
When
The only horizon
Was you
And we were happy
As we shared
Our little nothings
In the soft, green grass
Of May
Up on that hill
I can see it still
Like yesterday
Ghost in the moon-light
A lifetime ago
On a lonely night
Or at least it seems so
But in reality
I know
If I should choose
To count the days
In many ways
A lifetime can be
A week or so
But it can feel
Like a lifetime ago
When your eyes
No longer see
Me.

Another You

Other arms may reach to hold me
Other lips may kiss my cheek
Other ears will pause to listen
To the sentiments I speak
Other hands will touch my shoulder
Other hearts will love me too
But my darling there will never
Ever be another you

Other dreams will soon be waiting
Painting the horizon-line
In the misty summer moon-light
Other hands may pour love’s wine
Perhaps another voice will whisper
‘Neath a canopy of blue
But my darling there will never
Ever be another you

None will ever change your memory
Though the months and years may roll
No one can erase your whispers
Draw apart the melded soul
Yes, there will be many others
Here to share a mile or two
But my darling there will never
Ever be another you

Just Once More

I wish that I could laugh with you
Just once more
Taste the midnight sky so blue
Walk through its door
If I could have just one more dance
I’d let you go
If I could have just one more chance
I’d love you so
But the breezes blow
And the rivers flow
The days roll on….
You are gone

I wish that I could hold your hand
Just once more
Then run through summer’s fields again
Just like before
If I could have just one more hour
I’d love you so
Maybe then I’d have the power
To let you go
But the clouds drift by
In the clear, blue sky
The days roll on….
You are gone

If I could have just one more day
Would it be enough?
One more day to softly say
Sweet words of love
One day to run through fields so green
Or breathe its floor
Would be enough or would I plead
For just once more?
The flowers cry
I whisper ‘why?’
The days roll on….
You are gone

I Think I Would.....

I’d like to think I’m the kind of man
Who would always do the best he can,
One who would be kind and true
Even when it’s hard to do,
I’d like to think I’d always try,
I think I would…….or would I?

I’d like to think that I would pray
Though pain and sorrow fills my way,
I’d like to think that I would call
Upon the One who loves us all,
Then I would feel His Spirit nigh,
I think I would…….or would I?

I’d like to think if I’d been there,
When they betrayed my Lord so dear
I never would have left His side,
And not like Peter have denied
That I knew Him or He knew I,
I never would……or would I?

Would I stand up straight and tall
Beside my Lord in Pilate’s hall?
Would I stand for Him today
If all others walked away?
I’d like to think at least I’d try,
I think I would…or would I?

Blessed are you when people insult you,
Persecute you and falsely say all kinds
of evil against you because of me.
Rejoice and be glad because great
is your reward in Heaven. Matt.5:11-12
