More Than You Bargained For....

Darling I know in the past twenty-two years
You got more than you bargained for
You learned about mood-swings and those hormone things
But you’ve learned so much more
You’ve discovered the hidden truth
What the game of golf really means
And why there are more older men than youth
Strolling upon the greens
You got rear-enders and broken fenders
And errands in every direction
And whether you know it or not you own
A sizeable shoe collection
You got more bills than you ever dreamed
On the day you said ‘I do’
But maybe that’s because you got
A couple more mouths to feed too
And these have brought questions and more education
Than we ever learned in school
Some days I feel your share of frustration
I got more than I bargained for too!
We got more love and laughter and kisses
Than we knew ever existed
When you became mister and I became missus
‘Cause we could no longer resist it
Yes, I know in these past twenty-two years
You got more than you bargained for
But tell me darling, hasn’t it been great?
Let’s hope for twenty-two more!

Loving You....

What have I learned through loving you?
Love is hope when dreams don’t come true.
Love is the breath that blows away
The foolish or unkind words we say.
Love is the laughter, love is tears
To bind us closer through the years,
Love is joy and love is sorrow
Love gives us hope for each tomorrow.

Love is a harbor in the ‘midst of life’s sea
Without love’s haven where would we be?
For love is not a bed of roses,
A cloud on which the heart reposes,
Love is work and love is pain
Love is sunshine, Love is rain.
Love is the strength that holds us up,
If we must drink life’s bitter cup!

Love is the reason for every prayer
For every second mile we share.
A steady hand to trust and hold
In a world so cruel and cold!
Love is a gift-a treasure to cherish,
Not to neglect lest it should perish.
And I thank you, dear God above
For the precious gift of love!

The Dance

Once upon a greener day
We danced where dreams and daisies lay
Oblivious to eternal truth
Fleeting are the days of youth
But still we laughed in summer’s dance
Ignoring autumn’s furtive glance

Cast off the worry of tomorrow
Dance before your hour of sorrow
Youth is but a brief respite
Before life’s cold and bitter fight
Out upon the summer green
Dance, for Time is swift and keen

Fleeting moment in the sun
Summer soon like youth is gone
But the music soft and low
Keeps us humming as we go
We dance a little slower now
Yet it is just as sweet somehow

I will dance on winter’s snow
For in your eyes I see a glow
Then surely I can bear December
For within the smoldering embers
I still see the tender gleam
Of days gone by, as we would dream

Hold me close, our steps are slow
Soon across the green we’ll go
And we can dance eternally
With our soul and spirit free
Upon a fair and heavenly shore
Where time and age will be no more

Now these three remain,
Faith, hope and love,
but the greatest of these is love.1 Cor. 13:13

Never will I leave you,
never will I forsake you. Heb.13:5

A Thing of Beauty

There is a thing of beauty that’s so wondrous to behold,
And if asked what is its value I would say worth more than gold,
The young can never own it or appreciate its worth,
But among life’s blessings it’s the greatest one on earth

It’s love that stands the test of time in all its imperfection,
Two people keep their solemn vow pledged in youth’s affection,
They build a home within its bounds and never walk away,
Faithful always to each other each and every day

They face the challenges and joys, the calm and stormy weather,
Accomplishments and disappointments both are shared together,
And never with a coward’s tongue do they say, this is it,
And never ever do they say when struggles come, I quit

The love that stands the test of time forgives and then forgets,
It does not cling to grudges or resentments or regrets,
But often it must kindly turn a gentle blinded eye,
And never can it be neglected for fear then it would die

The hands that joined so soft and young are wrinkled now and worn,
But only the vile or foolish would look at them in scorn,
For these are the hands that toiled together and dried each-others tears,
The hands that clasped each evening in humble, thankful prayer

This love that stands the test of time is truly a thing of beauty,
It seeks no selfish glory or performs simply for duty,
For some the test of time is long, for others it is short,
Oh, may God bless each one who loves each day til death doth part
