That Is Why I Love You

You stooped to pick the trampled bud
As others hurried by
You tucked it in your pocket
With a soft look in your eye
For you still saw the beauty
That was there a breath ago
And cherished what was left of it
That’s why I love you so

As the bloom of yesterday
Softly, slowly fades
As the chestnut turns to gray
In all its varied shades
You still see the beauty
That was there a breath ago
And cherish what is left of it
That’s why I love you so

When my life spins out of focus
And I’m standing in the rain
In some long-forgotten station
Waiting for a home-bound train
You bring me an umbrella
Kiss the rain-drop from my eye
Darling that is why I’ll love you
Every day until I die

I Will Always Be Your Friend

Our paths may take a twist and turn
Many lessons yet to learn
But one thing you need not earn
I will always be your friend

Skies have donned a somber hue
Where they once shone bright and blue
It won’t change my love for you
I will always be your friend

Somewhere down life’s unknown way
God may grant each prayer I pray
Tomorrow is just like today
I will always be your friend

Wilderness

Beneath a dark and morbid sky
In love's silent soliloquy
I recall the fairer day
Where in green pastures we would play

Where stars would glisten over-head
Suspended on an unseen thread
And we could almost touch the lights
On those sultry summer nights

But now the sky is inky black
The darkness like a smothering wrap
The barren wilderness my curse
As I tremble in my thirst

Then, your quiet memory
Stirs a little light in me
Oasis in my wilderness
Life within its barrenness

Cool, cool drink of nectar sweet
Soft green grass beneath my feet
Friendship's softest touch to bless
In love's lonely wilderness

Let Me Be Your Friend

I noticed, as you turned and looked at me
There’s a hint of sorrow where your smile used to be
Would you care to share? You don’t need to pretend
I won’t betray you; let me be your friend

I’m missing the sparkle in your lovely eyes
The blue has deepened like grey in the skies
Sometimes all it takes is another’s hand
To cherish and hold; let me be your friend

Love is not love until given away
Won’t you let me give you my love today?
Tomorrow your eyes can be blue again
But for today, can I be your friend?

I noticed, as you turned and looked at me
There’s a hint of sorrow where your smile used to be
Pardon me for intruding but I know you understand
It takes one to know one, let me be your friend

Like You Do....

I’ve been given love in my life
I am a daughter, a mother and wife
I’ve been held and held love too
But there’s one thing I know is true
No one knows my deepest need
Hears my heart’s unspoken plea
No one understands like You
And no one loves me like You do

Blue skies, blue eyes, sun or rain
When we’re loved they’re all the same
Slow dance, soft glance, sand or snow
Loving makes each season glow
But in spite of love’s soft touch
From each hand we love so much
There’s one thing I know is true
No one loves me like You do

Soul-mate, so great, two hearts one
Sweetest love I’ve ever known
Love’s arms so warm, heaven smiles
God, you sure must love Your child
Cold night, hard fight, misunderstood
God, you are still great and good
Faithful, Wonderful, love so true
No one loves me like You do

And I Beheld.......

As hand in hand we climbed the hills
Far from the noise and daily spills
Into the silence of nature’s hush
Get-away from life’s ceaseless rush
As the whisper of beech, of elm and pine
Serenaded your heart and mine
I turned to get lost in your azure gaze
And I beheld the glimpse of another face….

We paused to view the fields below
A-wash with green and golden glow
The late day sun seemed to enhance
This canvas where the shadows dance
A splash of wordless paradise
Lay silently before our eyes
I softly kissed the hand I held
And suddenly another hand I beheld….

As the sun dropped low and out of sight
And its red glow faded to shades of night
As we drank in the scent of dust and dew
And the fields below disappeared from view
Still we stayed ‘neath this canopy
Of star and moon in a deep blue sea
In arms of love how pleasant this sod
And I beheld a glimpse of God

Over the Wave

When the wind gets knocked out of your sail, my friend
When you feel a little blue
When it seems your vessel won’t heed your command
And a good wind is over due
There is but One who can pick you up
Or make the breeze to blow
If you ask Him He will fill you up
When you are feeling low

His name is Jesus the Son of God
Lift your arms to Him
He waits with arms wide open too
When your shore grows dim
If in life’s sea you are drifting
With no portal in view
Turn to Jesus the Son of God
He is waiting for you

On life’s dark sea He’s the Captain, my friend
Commander of His fleet
He’ll guide you to your journey’s end
Through bitter days and sweet
If we recognize our Great Captain
Then through our calm or storm
He orders what will happen
And guides with open arms

So, turn to Jesus the Son of God
He is waiting for you
Here at your side He will abide
Until your journey’s through
Come to Jesus, the Son of God
Believe and He will save
Through calm or strife He holds your life
And guides you o’er the wave

Letting Go

If God gives us love to hold, then we must know,
There is coming a day when we need to let go,
To let go of our children, a husband or wife,
A father or mother or sweet friends in our life
Treasure and cherish them for we all know
There is coming a day when we’ll need to let go

His loving gifts are but treasures to borrow,
For no one but He knows our day of sorrow,
When time will come knocking on our door of woe
And the hour has come for us to let go,
We lay no claim to these earthly flowers,
By His gracious Name these gifts are ours…

…to be blessed with awhile and bless others too,
Until we are called to let them go,
Be it out of our door or out of this world
He owns every man, woman, boy or girl,
And it comforts me, oh it comforts me so
To know that our God will never let go
