Have You Tried It?

You look at me with pity as you analyze my life
How boring and mundane; simply a mother and housewife
Well, I say you’re entitled to your personal point of view
But before you seal your verdict I would like to ask of you….
Have you tried it?

Have you reassured the little girl with her infectious grin?
‘Yes, the gaps between your teeth will slowly all fill in’
Have hugged the little lad who did a chore for you
Or held them close when they were sad or just a little blue
Have you?

Have you been in the moment when a brilliant butterfly
Lands softly right in front of you out of the clear blue sky
And have you stopped a minute in the middle of a day
To listen to the flowers and just what it is they say
Have you?

Have you heard the heart-beat of the dawn before the sun was up?
And seen the kiss of morning in a golden butter-cup
If you look past the dishes and the laundry on a pile
Can you begin to understand the reason why I smile…
..and ask, have you tried it?

Fairer...

Fairer than the lilies, Lord
No one will ever be
Jewel of creation
Fashioned perfectly
Man can only imitate
The hand of this Designer
But they will never once create
Any garment finer
Essence of perfection
Captured in a bloom
Heavens pure reflection
In nature’s living-room

Behold.....

Look, oh look at the lily, the rose
As perfect today as in Eden’s repose
Immorality, shame, greed and lust
Leave their traces in the dust
Yet as man’s wickedness increases in power
They never can alter the form of the flower

Look, oh look at the breath of spring
Painting the earth in ever-green
Though man may strut and march and trod
And smear the handiwork of God
They can never quell the birth
Of the seed beneath the earth

The Hand of grandeur sweeps the world
As His glory in sweet spring is unfurled
He nudges the bud on the naked tree
And clothes the hills in an emerald sea
Over the fields of somber brown
He spreads a green and floral gown

Wickedness spoils and hatred kills
But it cannot hold back the wonder that fills
The earth; from generation to generation
No one can deter the Hand of creation
As He brushes His love on the dormant sod
And proclaims from above, BEHOLD, I AM GOD

I am so glad sin cannot taint
the beauty of a sunset,
the freshness of spring,

Mixed Blessing

When you’re with me my winter is a garden
Blooming in the glow of love’s soft shine
I can wander in its sweet perfection
Holding close to me this rose of mine
It perfume lingers here in tender pleasure
I can taste its sweet eternal kiss
I’ve been handed life’s most valued treasure
Blessed with love as comforting as this

But when you’re gone the garden lacks its luster
The flowers bloom in muted shades of gray
It takes all the courage I can muster
To walk through its loveliness today
The fragrance of the night has sadly faded
As longing, like a tempest sweeps my soul
It seems the garden our love created
Needs the love of two to make it whole

Love, you are a package of mixed blessing
Blending bitter sorrow with the sweet
But still I know in you we are possessing
The only gift that makes our life complete
Love, you are my gardens rarest flower
Love, you are my pleasure and my pain
If I had the chance to start all over
I would do it all with you again

Priceless Summer

There’s a price set on the summer
That this world cannot afford
No matter if we gathered
All the gold this world has stored
It’s a price set by the flowers
By the trees and birds that sing
And money cannot buy the hours
Where paupers can be kings

Who could buy a balm so pure
Or fresher than a breeze
Scented with the sweet allure
Of blossom-laden trees
And as we hear the symphony
From shady woodlands spill
It dulls the clanging harmony
That these world’s stages fill

Regardless of what we create
However rich and fine
We cannot touch the honored state
Of oak tree or of pine
And as the azure sky of day
Melts in a glorious mist
Tis but a fool who still would say
That God does not exist

I have yet to see a man
Whose beauty could compare
To the fields of God’s design
Or roses pure and fair
So if until the end of time
Great men may ever try
I thank God the price of summer
Is a price man cannot buy

Tomorrow......

Tomorrow today will be the past
So live each moment as if it were your last
Hug, love, laugh like never before
Tomorrow today will be no more

Tomorrow's worries can wait til tomorrow
No need for added burdens to borrow
But hold to your loved ones, oh hold them fast
And love them today as if it were your last

Don’t wait til God gives you a perfect day
To dance in freedom on tomorrow’s hay
Grass withers, flowers fade, and their bloom soon is past
So dance, dance today as if it were your last

Bury your face in life’s rose bouquet
Tomorrow its petals will have drifted away
To rest with today in an endless past
So live, live today as if it were your last

Measure by measure, flower by flower
God bestows treasure, hour by hour
A moment in time, a soft breath then it's past
So cherish today as if it were your last

Before

Before 'The inevitable'.....
My kitchen window faces the flower-garden...
That's why I wait to trim it,....
Hope......
Hush little flowers, don't you cry
God's gonna sing you a white lullaby
The petals you weep will not be in vain
But the seed that blooms in spring-time again.

A Husband

He’s fire and ice
He’s sugar and spice
He’s a blend of brusque and brawn
So strong, yet tender
Warrior, defender
The midnight and the dawn

He’s warmth and resistance
He’s depth and he’s distance
After God, he is one of a kind
He is powerful, passionate
Caring, compassionate
When loving God heart, soul and mind

Woman, do you know him?
Woman, do you show him?
For his heart is not made of stone
No infallible tower
But a delicate flower
If he falls he does not fall alone

Flower Garden

Oh, the flowers in her garden cheer the weary mother’s heart
When she bids her chores sweet pardon and she sets an hour apart
Just to bask in perfumed glory of the purples, pinks and blues
And to breathe in all the splendor of a thousand different hues

Oh the flowers in her garden brighten up dear mother’s hours
For what is quite as pleasant as a garden full of flowers?
When a bed of budding promise bursts into most glorious bloom
Triumph after showers in sweet nature’s living-room

Oh, the flowers in the garden when we’re bowed low in sorrow
A precious, loving symbol of fair hope in some tomorrow
For the bud that blooms, then fades and dies all scattered on the ground
Will plant a seed that blooms again when spring-time comes around

Oh, the flowers in the garden, a picture of man-kind
Where youth blooms for a season then is left so far behind
Til the Master of this garden calls us to His world on high
Where we’ll dwell within a garden where the flowers never die

All men are like grass and their glory is like the flowers of the field.
The grass withers and the flowers fall
because the breath of the Lord blows on them.
Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers and the flowers fall
But the word of our God stands forever. Isa.40:68
