Our Song

Sometimes it plays upon my heart like the strain of a violin
And though it’s tearing me apart I beg to hear it again
I let its sorrow linger like a kiss upon my pain
As you run your fingers through my memory again

I feel the tender passion of the music as it plays
I hear the breakers crashing on a sea-shore far away
I let its sonnet linger as it sets my spirit free
I reach to touch the fingers running through my memory

As the chorus fades away like waves return to sea
As the turquoise turns to gray and touch to memory
As the silence of the present drowns out its melody
I reach to clasp your fingers running through my memory

Reflections

She hears the distant echo of his laughter ‘cross the meadow
His voice so low and mellow like a whisper in the shadows
And out across the snowy plains the phantom memories dance
She knows she would go back again if she had the chance

Upon the fields now glazed with snow she sees the ever-green
A carpet flushed with daisies and the glow of girl-hood dreams
And there within his gentle arms the tender bud of youth
Unravels slightly ‘neath the charms of laughter, love and truth

But fate would choose a different path and there the tender rose
Wept petals where they used to laugh in lover’s sweet repose
And as the winds of winter sweep the cold and barren plain
In secret moments still she weeps for what once could have been

The arbor in her garden blooms with flowers sweet and rare
But sometimes midst their sweet perfume and on the still night air
The melody of their love song drifts softly ‘cross her mind
As she re-visits now and then a chapter left behind

Heaven's Violin

In Heaven I’m not sure what I’ll do
While God greets the other guests
I’ll wander the streets of golden hue
In perfect pastures I’ll rest
And as I pause on the heavenly shore
Where crystal waters flow
I’ll praise my King forevermore
And there’s one thing I know……

There’ll be violins in Heaven
Sweet music they will play
Trickles of perfection
In a holy serenade
The angels in countless number
Will drink the music in
As we pause in wordless wonder
At heaven’s violin

Its melody soothes the traveler
Here on our weary way
It sets our feet a-dancing
And turns our night to day
Its soft strain melts our troubles
If just for a little while
And when I get to Heaven
I know that I will smile…..

‘Cause there’ll be violins in Heaven
They might be made of gold
And as we view the beauty
That has never yet been told
Over the hills and valleys
A serenade begins
And feet will start a-dancing
To Heaven’s violin

Oh, what a celebration
Some sweet day it will be
As every tribe and nation
Unites in victory
And as we join in chorus
I’ll wear a mile-wide grin
As we hear what God saved for us…..

A Little Bit of Heaven

From the windows up above us
Is a Father’s loving gaze
And He shows us how He loves us
In so many countless ways
It’s a little taste of Heaven
That can drive the clouds away
As He pours out to the living
A little bit of Heaven every day

See the tiny baby’s fingers
Wrapped so tightly ‘round our own
A touch of Heaven lingers
In this angel He sent down
Oh, see their wide-eyed wonder
Joy of Heaven in their smile
Just a glimpse of glory yonder
A little bit of Heaven for a while

A little breath of Heaven
In a golden butter-cup
Lift your arms to praise Him
Lift your heart, He’ll fill it up
Tune your mind to hear it
A celestial melody
A little bit of Heaven
In a love-worn memory

A little bit of Heaven
Even in the pouring rain
To know we’ve been forgiven
Brings delight to the mundane
He brings a friend, a soul-mate
To share a dreary mile
Foretaste of His love so great
A little bit of Heaven for a while

A little bit of Heaven
In a smile, a kiss, a song
In the mercy He has given
His forgiveness for our wrong
In the presence of His Spirit
Hovering o’er me as I pray
I can feel it, I can hear it
A little bit of Heaven every day

August Hush

I feel her subtle presence
Stealing ‘cross the land
An intangible essence
Prelude to the Grand
It’s a dusty illusion
Asleep in the brush
But I sense her intrusion
In this August hush……

In the shimmering heat wave
A hazy afternoon
In the honey-suckle grave
Beneath a lazy moon
We know, though we can’t conceive it
The end of summer’s rush
But we will not believe it
In this August hush…….

The cricket and the locust
In a tireless symphony
Hail to the passing tourist
Nature’s melody
I pause for just a minute
In this interlude
Then I revel and glory in it
A summer subdued……

…..for try though I might
I cannot quell autumn’s brush
In this blest respite….
…in this August hush

Tears in my eyes
Are sure to swell
As I whisper good-bye
To thee, summer, farewell
