Why do You Love Me?

I’m good, it seems at breaking every promise
Spurning love that’s streaming from the sky
For every blessing I am vile, dishonest
Why do You love me Jesus, tell me why?

When sinful seeds bear fruit, instead of sorrow
I wallow in resentments bitter lie
In anger there, I curse today, tomorrow
Why do You love me Jesus, tell me why?

Then, as at last, I come with sad confession
You hear every broken, tender cry
Shining light into a dark depression
Why do You love me Jesus, tell me why?

You never leave me faltering on Your doorstep
Or turn a deafened ear or blinded eye
Every day You offer love and mercy
Why do You love me Jesus, tell me why?
