These Are Your Moments

Moments, sweet moments that measure a life,
Moments of joy and moments of strife,
Wherever I wander, wherever I climb,
May I never squander these moments in time

Whether you’re a new young mother
Holding a wee babe to your breast,
Whether you’re a sorrowing family
Laying dear old Dad to rest,
Whether you’re a sister or brother
One thing stays the same,
These are your moments, this is your life
And the only thing you own is your name

Whether you’re a farmer praying for yield
As you plant another crop of grain,
Whether you’re a soldier kneeling in a field
Ripe with a harvest of pain,
Whether you’re a king, a prince or a hobo
One thing stays the same,
These are your moments, this is your life
And the only thing you own is your name

Moments of love ‘round your kitchen table,
Moments of husband and wife,
Moments to labor as long as you’re able,
Moments, sweet moments, your life
Little bit o’ honey, a little bit o’ money,
Little bit o’ joy and strife,
Little bit o’ holdin’, a little bit o’ scoldin’,
Moments, sweet moments, your life

Whether you thrive in a room full of people
Or whether you struggle alone,
Whether your ego’s as high as a steeple
Or you’re mindful of all you own,
Whether you’re aged, youth or a child,
One thing stays the same,
These are your moments, this is your life
And the only thing you own is your name

Politician or voter, patient or doctor,
Salesman or a customer,
Fireman or vandal, reporter of scandal,
Millionaire or poor gambler,
Student or teacher, sinner or preacher,
One thing stays the same,
These are your moments, this is your life
And the only thing you own is your name

These are your moments, this is your life
And the only thing you own is your name,
So when you bid farewell to your moments here
Who cares then about fortune or fame?
When you stand before your Maker
And your moments are all laid bare,
When He opens up His Book of Life,
Will He then find your name written there?

These are your moments; this is your life,
So soon it all will end,
Whether your years are one or a-hundred,
Life is short, my friend,
These are your moments, this is your life
But one thing stays the same,
God is love and His grace is free
To all who believe on His Name

These are your moments, this is your life
So before it wastes away,
Put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
While it is yet today,
These are your moments, so brief, yet eternal
And one thing stays the same,
He gives everlasting life
To all who believe on His Name

Wooden Hearts

It really would not matter,
All the unkind words we say
Would run off our hearts like water
All its traces washed away,
And it really wouldn’t matter
If we spoke words we never should,
No it really would not matter
If our hearts were made of wood

But hearts are made of flesh and blood
And easily are broken,
And nothing ever works for good
Where unkind words are spoken,
Our hurts would never linger,
Words could never sting or smart,
And our speech could flow unhindered
If we all had wooden hearts

It really wouldn’t matter,
What we say, the words we choose
So what of thoughtless chatter
If our hearts were wooden shoes,
Then we could be cold and careless,
Say those words we never should,
And we truly could be heartless
If our hearts were made of wood

So why then do we treat each other
Like we never, ever should?
Treat our sister and our brother
As if they all had hearts of wood,
Cruel, unkind words bring sorrow,
Wound and scar and break apart,
Speak well, my friend, today, tomorrow,
For we don’t have wooden hearts

But with our hearts of flesh and blood
We love and laugh and cry,
Because our hearts aren’t made of wood
We hope and dream and sigh,
Lord, tame my tongue and let me never
Speak unless it’s kind and good,
Keep my words and tone so tender
For our hearts aren’t made of wood

Man's Wonder's, God's Wonder

Man has done wonders by the might of his hand
We can build bridges and palaces grand,
The lofty sky-scraper and the great Taj Mahal,
We come to gaze at the wonder of it all

But man can’t speak planets or stars into being
He cannot bring life to a meadow of green,
He can’t form the blossoms or grapes on a vine
Or imitate nature’s most perfect design

Man can create, but with wood, sod and stone,
God will create by His word alone,
Man can impress and draw loud exclamation,
God will draw worship as we view His creation

Mans hand by God’s hand is lovingly taught,
And only what God allows, ever is wrought,
But the greatest work my God ever has done
Is visible to His loving gaze alone

Yes, He formed the magnolia and the red-wood tree,
The tiniest ant and the emerald sea,
But His greatest miracle is invisible art,
He made a treasure out of my sinful heart

Little Girl

You’re a kaleidoscope of color when my sky is dull and gray,
When my feet are getting weary you’re my wings to fly away,
You’re my butterfly in winter, the music in my pain,
And you’re my umbrella in the rain

You’re my patchwork quilt of memories that I wrap around my heart,
You’re my laughter in the morning as our brand new memories start,
I pause to let its music trickle through my mind again,
Oh, you’re my umbrella in the rain

You’re my kisses sweet as honey, you’re my treasure in a smile,
You’re my gift of heavenly wonder making every day worthwhile,
You’re my splash of yellow sunshine when the clouds hang low in pain,
And you’re my umbrella in the rain

You’re a treasure chest of promise that the years gently uncover,
You’re my eyes to see the miracles alone I can’t discover,
You’re my hope that here on earth perhaps my life is not in vain,
Oh, you’re my umbrella in the rain

Do You Make Your Daddy Proud?

Little boy, little boy, I’m sittin’ here an’ thinkin’ loud,
In the choices of your day
Do you make your daddy proud?
At night when you lay down to rest
Does contentment fill your breast?
To know that what your hands have done
Would please a man to call you ‘son’

Little man, little man, I’m just kinda thinkin’ here,
As you lay down to rest at night
Is your mind and conscience clear?
In the actions you have done
Would dad be proud to call you ‘son’?
If Someone watched you, little lad,
Would you make your Father glad?

Young man, young man, I’m sittin’ here an’ thinkin’ loud,
As you rise to face the day
Won’t you make your father proud?
Is your spirit kind and true?
Would your dad be proud of you?
An’ I’m not talkin’ foolish pride…
But the honorable kind deep down inside

Little boy, little boy, I’m sittin’ here an’ thinkin’ loud,
If you wish to give dad joy
Live to make your Father proud,
Then you can look him in the eye,
Stand straight an’ tall with chin held high
To know the deeds which you have done
Would make him proud to call you ‘son’

Daddy dear, daddy dear, I’m sittin’ here an’ thinkin’ loud,
If your son followed you today,
Daddy, would you make him proud?
Would his heart swell in his chest
To know for sure his dad’s the best?
And would it make him proud and glad
To tell his buddies ‘that’s my dad’?!
Oh, an’ never let him hang his head,
Ashamed to whisper, that’s my dad

This for fathers and sons, but a lot of it is
Also for all of God’s children Janet Martin 2008

Lift your Eyes

Are you drifting on life’s ocean?
Are you sinking ‘neath its wave?
Weary of its endless motion,
Do you fear its stormy grave?
Lift your eyes to lights a-gleaming,
‘Cross the waves from heaven’s shore,
Glow of endless love redeeming,
Guides the vessel to His door

Is life’s sea a vale of sorrow?
Does your ship toss to and fro?
There is hope for your tomorrow
If you point t’wards heaven’s glow,
Lift your eyes to lights a-glowing,
Steadfast hope within life’s storm,
When life’s testing winds are blowing
Still He holds you in His arms

No night is darker than His splendor,
No storm is greater than His love,
If to this captain we surrender,
He’ll guide us to His port above,
So lift your eyes beyond the gloaming,
Past the waves of dark despair
To the beams of mercy glowing
From the lighthouse over there

Now I Lay Me...

Now I lay me down to weep
I pray Thee Lord, vigil to keep
Over precious boys and girls
Living in a fearsome world
Without a loving mom and dad
To tuck them in and make them glad
Now I lay me down to weep
Dear Lord, oh watch them as they sleep

Now I lay me down to weep
Praying for your wandering sheep
Lost somewhere out in the cold
Where night is cruel outside your fold
Givers, takers of the street
Caught in dungeons of defeat
Now I lay me down to weep
Dear Lord, oh watch them as they sleep

Lord, my tears I cannot keep
From flowing as I try to sleep
It’s a loveless world out there
For victims caught in evil’s snare
Lord, please hear my earnest plea
For no one Lord, is hid from Thee
And never let me just count sheep
Now I lay me down to weep

Someone Drinks and Drives

Charlie made a poster at school today,
Underneath he wrote ‘me an’ Dad’,
Little Charlie can hardly wait
To show him the picture he made,
He’ll hide it under his dinner plate
Until his daddy arrives,
But Charlie is not coming home tonight,
Because tonight someone drinks, then drives

Charlie has a brother and four best friends,
They trade baseball cards at school,
They brag about who swings the meanest bat,
Oh, they think they’re all pretty cool,
They dream of what they are going to be
When they’re old, like twenty-five,
But Charlie’s dream will end tonight
Because someone will drink, then drive

Charlie won’t be kissing his mom good-night
Or giving his daddy high-fives,
He won’t be racing his brother’s bike
Or grinning at jokes he derives,
His grand-daddy weeps ‘He was a fine boy’,
His grandma can only cry,
No, Charlie is not coming home tonight
‘Cause tonight someone drinks, then drives

Charlie’s class made a card today
To hang by a small brown plaque,
It says, ‘We wish you weren’t taken away,
We sure wish we could have you back,
You’re baseball team misses you’re mean bat,
In our hearts you’re still alive,
But we still don’t understand
Why someone would drink then drive’,

Tonight you’re gonna be a big, big man,
Tonight you’ll be macho and cool,
You’ll buy a round for your four best friends,
Hey, who says a drunk is a fool?!
Just a couple of drinks for a hard days work,
It’s sure great to be alive!
Tonight little Charlie’s big dreams will end
‘Cause tonight you’ll drink then drive

In the Garden

In the garden, in the garden,
Do you see Him kneeling there?
Agonizing ‘neath the burden
For which He was sent to bear,
O, my Father, if you’re willing
Let this cup depart from me,
O, my Father, if You will not
Make my own will more like Thee

See the sweat-drops, see the sweat-drops
Fall like blood around him there,
For his agony increases
As the hour of death draws near,
O, my Father, O, my Father
Not My will but Thine be done,
For this cup You give no other
Than Your one and only Son

See the angel, see the angel,
Bending low to dry His tears,
Sweet compassion from His Father,
Sent to show He still is near,
O, my Father, O, my Father,
Lo, the hour now is come,
O, my Father, O, my Father,
Not My will, but Thine be done

Your Music

Oasis in the desert,
Slumber in a storm,
Water for my parched lips,
Cool breeze when I’m warm,
Milk and honey morning,
Nectar on my tongue,
Snuggled at Your knee, Lord
Listening to Your song

Sugar-drops from Heaven,
Ointment for my soul,
Slightly scarred and battered,
Your song makes me whole,
Joy within my midnight,
Dew-drops at high noon,
Sitting at your feet, Lord,
Listening to Your tune

No Passing Fancy

His loves no passing fantasy
His love flows on forever
No leaf upon an autumn breeze
Or floating down a river
So do not choose with apathy
His high and holy calling
His loves no passing fantasy
Like spring-time snowflakes falling

We cannot choose to walk away
And never give an answer
If we have bowed our knee to pray
In some quick passing fancy
God is not mocked and He will judge
What is right and pure
If we to Him our love have pledged
A soldier must endure

His offering is no fantasy
Or just a passing fancy
His offering sets the sinner free
And heavy hearts a-dancing
His loves the Greatest Mystery
Not a passing season
He does not love us casually
Or without any reason

So when we bow beneath His call
Before His sacred altar
Our name recorded in his scroll
His grace will never falter
We cannot choose to walk away
As from a passing whim
His cross is not a fantasy
And we will answer Him

He who was seated on the throne said,"I make everything new!". Then He said,"Write this down for these words are trustworthy and true." He said to me: "It is done. I am theAlpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.
To him
who is thirsty I will give him to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.Rev.21:5-7

Choose Life Aug.3 2009

No wind-swept kisses on my cheek
No apple blossoms clinging to my hair
No first words for me to speak
Oh mommy, did you never really care?
No summer picnics at the park
Or watching as the rain comes pouring down
No bedtime kisses after dark
Or buying me a satin wedding gown

Did you really never love me?
Was I simply a symbol of your shame?
Did you really never love me, mom?
Was I the fruit of hatred's evil game?

No sitting at the brink of dusk
To watch the sun slip soundlessly away
No daisy-chains or buttercups
No imaginary games for us to play
No birthday cards or sticky smiles
As I tasted my first birthday cake
No looking deep into my eyes
And loving me until your heart could break

Did you really never love me mom?
Did you think you'd be rid of all your blame?
Did you really never love me mom?
You never even gave to me a name

Now there is sunshine on my face
A halo on my pretty golden curls
I'm in such a lovely place
A Heaven full of little boys and girls
It’s a home of joy and love
Overflowing with a thousand charms
Sometimes I wish that you were here
To see me in my loving Father's arms

Did you really never love me mom?
Or was it just not greater than your fear?
Did you really never love me mom?
Can't help but wish sometimes that you were here
