You Teach Me...

You teach me how to roll with the punches
On life’s ever-changing sea
When I think that I cannot do it
You are right there to teach me
As life’s highway dips into the valley
And suddenly the sun disappears
You are still there in the darkness
To whisper to me through my fears

You teach me to say ‘not my will, Lord’
When it is so hard to do
As I realize my great weakness
All I can do is trust You
For faith is the substance we hope for
Something naked eye cannot see
Yet it is not blind; but with purpose
Lord, You are teaching me

You tell me I can fly like an eagle
If I simply trust Your will
Lord, how You love Your people
There are no words to tell
The infinite streams of compassion
Beyond the depths of the sea
Lord, clear my earth-dimmed vision
To see what You’re teaching me

But they that wait upon the Lord
shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
and they shall walk and not faint.

Isa.40:31

Morning Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, guide me today
Stir in my heart to desire Your way
Open my eyes so that I may see
The fullness of You abiding in me
A vessel not filled with fruits of my choosing
But formed to your will and ready for using
Mold my ambitions to obey your will
It seems like this world is ready to fill
The mind and the heart with carnal desire
Lord, draw me apart with a holy fire
Breathe your promises into my ear
Tune my mind so that I may hear
And humbly reply, not my will but thine,
As into Your hand this day I resign.
Amen.

This is the day the Lord hath made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it!!! Ps. 118:24

Heavenly Gift

Last night I knelt before your altar
Laid upon its silent stone
The thing that I would not relinquish
Knowing it was not my own
And I cried, oh God, please take it
Not my will, but Yours be done
Take my stubborn heart and make it
More and more like Your dear Son

As I opened up my fingers
And released my foolish pride
I could feel His Presence linger
Like a dove close at my side
While I slept His peace surrounded
God, I did not understand
But when I awoke I found it
A gift returned within my hand

The Storm

Upon the shore-line of my heart
The ruthless waves are crashing
It’s tempest tearing me apart
As on the rocks they’re dashing
Dark above, the grumbling sky
Threatens retaliation
Its pewter mumbling mirrors my
Rebellious indignation

In anger I resist the tide
The rising tumult surging
My will refusing to subside
To the Spirit’s urging
As on the rolling ocean-crest
The boiling tempest rages
With cloven tongues of lightning-flash
Upon the foaming stages

The moaning timbre of the wind
Lashes out in fury
As my raging tear-drops blind
Me to a love enduring
And still the waves in anger crash
Against the Rock abiding
The thunder rolls, the heavens flash
Rebuking, loving, chiding

In the climax of the storm
I sense a sudden waning
As I cry out for loving arms
So long I’ve been refraining
And out above the howling gale
On my will defeated
He steps out; the storm clouds pale
With blessed words repeated,
"Peace be still, peace be still
AS you trust your Father's will
Peace be still, peace be still
As you trust My perfect will"

Show Me Your Way

Show me Your way, Lord, show me Your way,
There’s many a foot-path on which I could stray,
So many temptations on enticing display,
So, show me Your way Lord, show me Your way

Show me Your will, Lord; show me Your will,
This world offers much that can never fulfill,
While my stubborn heart rages, make me be still,
Show me Your will Lord, show me Your will

Show me Your might, Lord; show me Your might,
Draw me out of the darkness and into the light,
Subdue evil passions, which hinder my fight,
And show me Your might, Lord, show me Your might

Show me Your way, Lord, show me Your way,
Keep me on Your path by night or by day,
Through meadow or mountain, lead me I pray,
And show me Your way Lord, show me Your way

True Worship

Teach us how to worship you
In spirit and in truth
Not simply something that we ‘do’
Taught within our youth
But Lord, create within us
A heart that beats for You
Be the Power within us
Not something that we ‘do’

Pour upon the cold hard ground
Our foolish will and pride
True worship, Lord, is only found
When filled with He who died
To set each hopeless sinner free
Defeating even death
To give us life abundantly
Oh, may He fill each breath

Teach us how to worship You
Not just in word or song
But fill us Jesus, through and through
So worship may become
Something that we truly ARE
Not something that we ‘do’
A humble, thankful worshipper
Serving only You

Aching Arms

Lord, my arms are aching today
With the need to hold loved ones far away
But I must release them, trust in Your care
And tenderly enfold them in arms of prayer.

Fighting Your Will

Lord, no, no, I don’t want to go,
I simply cannot do it
Oh, do not ask of me this task
Oh, walk some other through it
It’s not for me Lord, can’t You see
I’m oh so small and feeble
It seems I see so many who’d be
More fit than I of all people

I’m growing tired, I’m fighting hard
Trying to ease Your prodding
I shout and sing, do many ‘things’
In vain, my foolish plotting
For in the hush of midnights rush
I hear Your patient Spirit
“Why do you fight? You know I’m right
And I will help you bear it”

Resigned and shaking, my will is breaking
As weeping I surrender
Yes, Lord I’ll go, for Lord, I know
You are my Great Defender
I’ve fought so hard but now my guard
Is weak and failing sadly
I’ll trust in You to see me through
The will I’ve fought so badly

Within my heart dwells no good part
Your will must be my wisdom
As step by step I’m in your grip
Until I reach Your kingdom
If I fulfill Your perfect will
Tis only through Your Spirit
So I will try and if I cry
I know that You will hear it

Because God has said,
"I will never leave you;
I will never forsake you;"
So we can say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper,
Iwill not be afraid.
What can man do to me?" Heb.13:5-6

In the Garden

In the garden, in the garden,
Do you see Him kneeling there?
Agonizing ‘neath the burden
For which He was sent to bear,
O, my Father, if you’re willing
Let this cup depart from me,
O, my Father, if You will not
Make my own will more like Thee

See the sweat-drops, see the sweat-drops
Fall like blood around him there,
For his agony increases
As the hour of death draws near,
O, my Father, O, my Father
Not My will but Thine be done,
For this cup You give no other
Than Your one and only Son

See the angel, see the angel,
Bending low to dry His tears,
Sweet compassion from His Father,
Sent to show He still is near,
O, my Father, O, my Father,
Lo, the hour now is come,
O, my Father, O, my Father,
Not My will, but Thine be done
