Lonesome Wind

Lonesome wind, you’re a restless wind
Moaning across a silver, silent field
In the dead of night,
Searching for one single, solitary friend
Who in empathy perhaps might yield
And then take flight
Within your empty sorrowing arms
You would lift her, up, up and away
A phantom mate
And oh, how winsome were your charms
And you would soon forget the gray
You’ve seen of late
And then your moaning would become
A soft, light-hearted laughter
Of sweet delight
Then you would finally take her home
But not until long after
You’ve spent the night

I was turning off my computer
when I heard the wind
moaning a low and sorrowful song
beckoning, it seemed,
searching for a kindred spirit....
but still it wails.

Broken Dreams

Above the blue-eyed lakes of grass
Sunbeams dance and storm clouds pass
Where flows time’s never-ending streams
Through this field of broken dreams

In sacred graves their shadows lie
Beneath the blue or gloaming sky
Unjustly some reside, it seems
In this field of broken dreams

A hope without a voice to sing
A fantasy without a wing
A passion lost in time’s swift streams
In this field of broken dreams

Here the shattered spirits lie
Here rejected lover’s die
Here the dew of sorrow gleams
On a field of broken dreams

Here illusion and cruel truth
Meet to steal the wealth of youth
Snuffing out the restless gleam
On a field of broken dreams

God sees every bitter tear
Disappointments, doubts and fear
But all is not as it may seem
And God is God of each broken dream

Dreamer

Fluorescent orb on velvet blue
Ruler of the sky
As I sit here and gaze at you
I wish that I could fly
And on these wings of pure fancy
I think I would return
To simpler days, now fantasy
For which the dreamer yearns

Then I would fly until I’d find
Amongst the rolling hills
All rich and green and cedar-lined
Midst thrush and whip-poor-will
A cabin left to wanderers
Deserted in life’s race
Where I would stay and ponder
Things like poetry and grace

And on an evening just like this
Upon its porch I’d stay
Until the dawning’s dewy kiss
Would steal the night away
In heavenly seclusion
In nature’s living-room
The only soft intrusion
Is the sound of nature’s broom

I think t’would be so easy then
Perhaps for me to hear
The voice of God a-whispering
Softly in my ear
But duty is a constant friend
And dreaming is my foe
So I leave where I first began
Where God leads, I will go

No Passing Fancy

His loves no passing fantasy
His love flows on forever
No leaf upon an autumn breeze
Or floating down a river
So do not choose with apathy
His high and holy calling
His loves no passing fantasy
Like spring-time snowflakes falling

We cannot choose to walk away
And never give an answer
If we have bowed our knee to pray
In some quick passing fancy
God is not mocked and He will judge
What is right and pure
If we to Him our love have pledged
A soldier must endure

His offering is no fantasy
Or just a passing fancy
His offering sets the sinner free
And heavy hearts a-dancing
His loves the Greatest Mystery
Not a passing season
He does not love us casually
Or without any reason

So when we bow beneath His call
Before His sacred altar
Our name recorded in his scroll
His grace will never falter
We cannot choose to walk away
As from a passing whim
His cross is not a fantasy
And we will answer Him

He who was seated on the throne said,"I make everything new!". Then He said,"Write this down for these words are trustworthy and true." He said to me: "It is done. I am theAlpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.
