Realizations

It’s bitter-sweet, the process
Of realizing truth
The moment of recognizing
The things such as freedom and youth
Are gone; though I may try to reach
With yearning finger-tip
I can only touch their memory
In a tender, trembling grip

In the blue haze softly nestled
On the layered distant hill
I can hear an echo
When the night is warm and still
The echo that reminds me
I will never hold the hands
Of summers far behind me
Lost on times vast golden sands

It’s bitter-sweet, the process
Of coming face to face
With the realization
That there is no time and place
To hold the ones beyond my reach
Though my arms may ache
Time and life steals them from me
For as time gives it takes

But in this realization
There comes a sudden peace
For the Hand that gives and takes
Holds love that will never cease
As I reach to take from Him
Mercy's gift to me
Another moment of His love
Life's only certainty

I wrote this poem, took our van
to the mechanic, came home and completely
re-wrote the last verse!

I met a neighbor who is my age
at the mechanic. I have known him all my life.
At little before Christmas they were dealt a powerful blow!!!!
He has cancer. He is under-going very intense treatment,
yet he radiates a calm and peace that can only come
from one Source! A fresh realization washed over me....
there is only one certainty in this life...
God's everlasting, changeless love!
If you read this will you pray for him?

Sea of Dreams

I stood there once, little girl, little girl
Not so very long ago
My dreams were as big as the world, little girl
Unhindered by fact or foe
Where stars were made for wishing
And wishes were made for free
Where moments were urged to pass as fast
As the waves on the big old sea
‘Cause all of my dreams were waiting, waiting
Across my childhood sea
Yes, all of my dreams were waiting, waiting
On the other side for me
As I stood on the shore of a big old world
Dreaming of what will be…..

I stand here now little girl, little girl
Oh, won’t you stand with me?
‘Cause you are my dream in this big old world
The crest of my wave on life’s sea
The star that once I wished upon
Is twinkling in your eye
The moments now I’m clinging to
That once I urged to fly
For all of my dreams are changing, changing
Sweeter because of you
And all of my dreams I hold in my hand
As we gaze at the sea so blue
For the other side is where I now stand
Beside my dream come true

(Optional)
Stand here and dream little girl, little girl
Oh, how I envy you
Dreaming your dreams as big as the world
And as vast as the sea so blue……

God is in Control

Costs go up and wages come down
Businesses close all over town
The price of gas much less a car
Makes one ask, oh just how far
How far will all this chaos go?
No one really seems to know
Do not lose heart dear precious soul
OUR GREAT GOD IS IN CONTROL

Markets crash and airplanes too
Bomb threats plague the daily news
Wars and rumors with no end
These are changing times my friend
Little children snatched away
Innocence is evils prey
Though the waves of evil roll
OUR GREAT GOD IS IN CONTROL

The devil laughs, the devil screams
Striking fear to youthful dreams
Precious child, oh do not fear
He knows his days are numbered here
His schemes and forces will run dry
He fears OUR GREAT GOD up on high
He knows where lies his final goal
For OUR GREAT GOD IS IN CONTROL

The Older I Get......

Kids these days sure must be smart
It makes me crease my brow
As their grand wisdom they impart
The what, the why and how
Well. I never once imagined
That it ever would be so
But I now realize for certain
The older I get THE LESS I KNOW

Yes, my small life experience
Has taught me a thing or two
But no one’s really interested
In my point of view
Why, what happened once to me
Was SO VERY long ago
Things have CHANGED, can I not see?
Yep, the older I get THE LESS I KNOW

So last night after I’d been beaten
And I was feeling a little low
I talked to God in Heaven
He tells me what I AUGHT to know
And I guess as long as earth remains
Time is a teacher so
Eventually the ‘smart ones’ of today will complain
That the older they get THE LESS THEY KNOW!!!

Retrospect

When the warmth of invisible hands
Cools upon our skin
When the echo of soft laughter
Drifts down memory’s lane
When words that held and shaped us
Lie in silence now
We begin to see life’s truth
That we have changed somehow

When the glow of inaudible whispers
Silently evaporates
And arms you never touched, yet held you
Close the garden gate
As we sit upon its hallowed wall
A sweet essence remains
For in each life some rain must fall…
And we’ll never be the same

Invisible fingers mold and shape us
With a whispering touch
Silently, obscurely they surround us
Brushing our day with love
And, as they pass in muted shadows
Down a fern-lined memory-lane
In retrospect we recognize
Invisible hands of change

Changing Canvas

It does not seem to matter
How young or old I am,
One thing I must acknowledge
Is that nothing stays the same,
So, lest I stand too long and pine
For joys of yesterday,
This present treasure I must find
Before it slips away…..

….For life is a changing canvas,
Life is a flowing stream,
Some days are sparkling diamonds
And some are broken dreams
But the God who expels the thunder
Cradles the earth in His hand,
He fills each day with wonder
And blessings rich and grand

So, when I cling to the present
Because I’m afraid to let go,
May His sweet love incessant
Remind me of what I know,
My unchanging God is forever,
The God of my present and past,
And as I gaze into the future
I know He’ll hold me fast

So I’ll cherish every hour,
For tomorrow, its change will bring,
Without it a bud would not flower,
A butterfly could never grow wings,
And we would not grow in our wisdom
If it weren’t for the changes we face,
Our failures would be our prison
Instead of a door to His grace
