In Me.....

To wallow in doubt and self-pity
Is to defy His existence in me
To walk in the dark when I can’t see a thing
Is to believe in the power of Him
To surrender my all I must first let go
And only then can I truly know
What His perfect will would be
This is the power of Christ in me

My grace is sufficient for
you, for my power is made
perfect in weakness.

He Is There......

The daylight breathes behind the veil
Of dark and charcoal seas
And e’en before the brink turns pale
We feel it on the breeze
A whisper in the raven tress
A murmur on the sod
A Presence in the cool stillness
The deity of God

Life’s joy and sorrow weaves a shroud
The cloak we all must wear
And still beyond the sun and cloud
We know that He is there
A chant within fair nature’s chord
A throb upon the earth
A Presence of the King and Lord
Of this grand universe

We kneel in thanks at close of day
Fold weary hands in prayer
He wraps His love across our way
Though we can’t see Him there
We feel Him in our heart of heart
A comfort in life’s rain
The Mighty God of heaven and earth
Dwells in the heart of man

You hem me in--behind and before,
You have laid Your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty to attain......

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from Your Presence?
If I go up to the heavens
You are there....
If I make my bed in the depths
you are there....Psalms 139:5-8

Greater Is He

Over the tides of circumstance
Or anger’s raging sea
Over the fretful winds of chance
And human misery
I see the banner of His love
In gentle tones unfurled
Greater is He that is in me
Than he that is in the world

Over this turmoil’s darkened plain
Where man is doomed to live
Over the hurt and bitter pain
When I cannot forgive
He whispers to me soft and low
His mercy there unfurled
Greater is He that is in me
Than he that is in the world

Over this wretched form of dust
Where death is my release
Over this world of shame and lust
Where there would be no peace
I hear again His tender Voice
In perfect love unfurled
Greater is He that is in me
Than he that is in the world

Enlightenment

Sometimes a line or a word
Or a moment
Steals my breath
Strangely divine
My heart is stirred
And I’m afraid to move
Lest I put to death
This flickering essence
Like a misty veil
A translucent presence
A holy grail
Drawing my mind
To its furthest reaches
Determined to find
Midst the common speeches
The source of this
Heart-stopping inspiration
Breath-taking moment
Beyond interpretation
For one micro-second
A flicker in time
Perfect enlightenment
Truly was mine
But as I reach to grasp
At its filmy sway
Alas, alas
It slips away….

Perhaps it was God
Reminding me
That only through Him
True enlightenment will be

I pray also that the eyes of your heart
may be enlightened in order that you may
know the hope to which he has called you,
the riches of His glorious inheritance
in the saints, and His incomparably great
power for us who believe.Eph. 1:18-19

Release

The many sad mistakes I’ve made
March like a maddened parade
In front of me, they laugh and pass
Like ghosts within my looking-glass
They taunt me and torment my mind
Reminding me that they will find
Me, when I’m weak or feeling low
Cold and cruel, this phantom show

I close my eyes and stop my ears
To block their cries and mocking sneers
And just as I’m about to fall
A victim to their heartless call
I sense a Presence in the room
Lingering, like a sweet perfume
Victory, sweet, sweet release
I fall into His arms of peace

A Little Bit of Heaven

From the windows up above us
Is a Father’s loving gaze
And He shows us how He loves us
In so many countless ways
It’s a little taste of Heaven
That can drive the clouds away
As He pours out to the living
A little bit of Heaven every day

See the tiny baby’s fingers
Wrapped so tightly ‘round our own
A touch of Heaven lingers
In this angel He sent down
Oh, see their wide-eyed wonder
Joy of Heaven in their smile
Just a glimpse of glory yonder
A little bit of Heaven for a while

A little breath of Heaven
In a golden butter-cup
Lift your arms to praise Him
Lift your heart, He’ll fill it up
Tune your mind to hear it
A celestial melody
A little bit of Heaven
In a love-worn memory

A little bit of Heaven
Even in the pouring rain
To know we’ve been forgiven
Brings delight to the mundane
He brings a friend, a soul-mate
To share a dreary mile
Foretaste of His love so great
A little bit of Heaven for a while

A little bit of Heaven
In a smile, a kiss, a song
In the mercy He has given
His forgiveness for our wrong
In the presence of His Spirit
Hovering o’er me as I pray
I can feel it, I can hear it
A little bit of Heaven every day

He is my Hope

In spite of the gloom that shadows my way,
In spite of the unanswered prayers that I pray,
In spite of the dreams growing dark with dismay
I’m glad there is one thing I know,
Out of the shadows a beacon I see,
Out of the silence He whispers to me,
In my disappointments, A Presence He’ll be,
For He leads where He needs me to go,
He is my hope today and tomorrow,
He is my hope in my hour of sorrow,
In despair He’s my strength, in the night He’s my song,
God is my hope all the day long

In spite of the trials which cause me to fear,
In spite of the pain I hardly can bear,
In spite of uncertainty, still He is near
And I’m glad there is one thing I know,
Though trials may cause my heart to ache,
In fear I tremble and sometimes shake,
He whispers then, I’ll not forsake
For I’ll lead where I need you to go,
He is my hope in spite of my weeping,
Faithful to me, His watch He is keeping,
Whisper of hope when my spirit sinks low,
He is my hope where ever I go
